Phonic Voices

Phonic Voices is a community radio project where members of the public were
challenged to record the one day of their life that made them who they are.

The project worked with Age ConcernExeter Royal Devon Hospital School and St Swithun's Community Centre to document the moments that had changed peoples lives forever.

Phonic FM and award winning filmmaker Peter Snelling from My Pockets, with the support of the National Lottery, inspired people to tell their stories, taught them how to make their own audio recordings using digital recording equipment and trained them to edit the recordings on professional software.

All the stories are recorded and edited by the people who are telling them. The pieces of radio that have been created are moving, funny, authentic and personal. They shed light on how life can take us all in unexpected directions and how the challenges that are thrown at us can help us see things differently, to learn and to grow.

The radio programmes created by the project will be aired on Phonic FM on 24 April1 May and 8 May 2013 at 5pm during Martin Hodge's Hot Pebbles! show. Martin will be interviewing some of the participants just before the first broadcast.

Hot Pebbles! on Phonic FM on 24 April will also feature an interview with Jackie Oates about her new album Lullabies. We will, of course, play some of the songs from Lullabies too.

Jackie is appearing at Exeter Phoenix in the evening of 24 April with a Lullabies workshop in the daytime. Further info here.
